Acupuncture101

Acupuncture Therapy is part of the world's oldest medical system known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), dating back over 3,000 years. Acupuncture was discovered and developed in ancient China as an effective and holistic medical treatment, addressing a wide variety of humankind's health challenges. What is most remarkable about Acupuncture is that it has withstood the test of time and is still practiced today in modern times, with incredible results.
Probably the most common question I receive is "How does acupuncture work?" Acupuncture promotes the body's own natural internal healing forces (Qi, "chee") by using very fine, sterile stainless needles gently inserted at specific points along the Meridians. There are 14 main Meridians that flow up & down the entire body, which connect to each other and to the internal organs. By stimulating these "acupoints," the trained acupuncturist can achieve very specifically desired results to promote the patients unique healing process.
The most important concept to grasp in Traditional Chinese Medicine is the concept of "Qi", also known as Vital Life Energy. Just as the western medical model includes the Circulatory, Nervous, Skeletal, Muscular, Organ, and Endocrine Systems; the eastern TCM understanding of human physiology also includes the Energy (or Qi) System. Qi flows within the Meridians and is accessed at acupoints. There is a common saying in TCM that states: Where there is free flow of Qi, the body, mind, and spirit are balanced and healthy; when Qi becomes blocked or stagnant, pain or dis-ease results."
It is my hope that this brief introduction will help deepen your understanding of Acupuncture, and pique your curiosity. Meet Loliette...
Loliette studied at San Jose City College where they have one of the most reputable programs in the area. She obtained her Cosmotology license 13 years ago and spent the first couple of years in make-up Artistry while searching for the right salon that would offer extended training and education. She found that fit in Saratoga and spent a year as an assistant with hands-on training and theory. She completed the assisting program and was a stylist there for nine years.
